Baltic Pavilion Opens at Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan

The Baltic Pavilion officially opened its doors at the world’s largest exhibition, “Expo 2025 Osaka.” Representing Latvia and Lithuania under the unified theme “We Are One,” the pavilion highlights the interconnectedness of nature, people, and technology. The international exhibition in Japan will run for six months, until October 13th. It features participation from 160 countries and 9 organizations and is expected to attract approximately 28 million visitors from around the globe.

The opening ceremony of the Baltic Pavilion was attended by several dignitaries who participated in the symbolic ribbon-cutting: Edmunds Valantis, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics of Latvia; Lāsma Līdaka, General Commissioner of Latvia’s Participation in “Expo 2025 Osaka”; Zigmārs Zilgalvis, Ambassador of Latvia to Japan; Lina Antanavičiene, General Commissioner of Lithuania’s Participation in “Expo 2025 Osaka”; Aurelijas Zykas, Ambassador of Lithuania to Japan; and Artūrs Analts, the artist and designer of the Baltic Pavilion.

Visitors to the pavilion will embark on a sensory journey through the Baltic region, discovering its nature, culture, and traditions, as well as innovative solutions from Latvia and Lithuania for a better future. The “We Are One” concept emphasizes the understanding that everyone is part of this planet, which is both a privilege and a responsibility to protect it for future generations. To draw attention to this, the pavilion’s centerpiece is a unique installation – an interactive glass wall offering a respite from the fast-paced digital world. Named “Kizuna,” which translates from Japanese as a close, emotional bond, the wall highlights the connection between people and their relationship with nature, other individuals, communities, and nations. The wall’s unique technology creates a condensation effect, allowing visitors to leave messages on its surface. The messages disappear within a few minutes, prompting reflection on individual actions and their impact on the planet.

Pavilion visitors can also explore the “Nature’s Pharmacy,” showcasing approximately 300 samples of Baltic meadow plants, along with explanations of their unique properties and applications for improving health and quality of life. Additionally, everyone has the opportunity to symbolically participate in planting a forest in the Baltics. Each digitally planted tree will also be physically planted in Latvia and Lithuania in specially created forests in Tērvete and Joniškis.

A digital business catalog is also available in the pavilion, allowing visitors to learn more about Latvian and Lithuanian companies seeking to expand their export capabilities in the Japanese market.

“Expo 2025 Osaka” is the world’s most significant exhibition for building national image and promoting export capabilities, addressing not only economic but also globally important social issues. To achieve such goals an extensive business program is being organized, offering opportunities to get to know more the Baltic countries, their economic and cultural potential. Various exhibitions, events are planned at the pavilion and on the EXPO: May 20th National Day of Latvia, July 6th will be Lithuania ‘s National Day, On August 23rd EXPO 2025 Osaka visitors will have opportunity to learn about Baltic ‘s song festivals traditions and culture.
