International Design Competition Launched for Baltic Pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka

The Chancellery of the Government of Lithuania, in cooperation with the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA), has launched design competition for the construction of a joint Baltic Pavilion at the international exhibition, Expo 2025 Osaka. This event, running from 13 April to 13 October 2025, will be an exclusive opportunity to highlight the unique offerings of Latvia and Lithuania to a global audience.

Showcasing the Baltic Region

Expo 2025 Osaka, themed “Building a Future Society for Our Lives,” is expected to draw participation from 160 countries, 9 international organizations, and over 28 million visitors.

The Baltic Pavilion aims to introduce both Japanese and international visitors to the distinctiveness of Latvia and Lithuania. As part of the Nordic region’s representation, a joint Nordic Pavilion will also feature Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland, emphasizing the collaborative spirit of Northern Europe.

A Call for Innovative Designs

“We want to showcase the uniqueness of our region in the Baltic Pavilion, presenting Lithuania as an open country where world-changing solutions are born. We eagerly await creative ideas that will help us achieve this,” said Giedrė Balčytytė, the Chancellor of the Government.

Design submissions for the Baltic Pavilion are being accepted until 17 June. The pavilion will occupy a 300 square meter space provided by the Expo organizers, strategically located next to the European Union Pavilion. Interested participants can find the tender conditions on the Electronic Public Procurement System (EPS) website under “EXPO Osaka 2025 Tender.”

Celebrating Baltic Unity

The international exhibition will feature significant events such as the Lithuanian National Day on 6 July and the joint Lithuanian-Latvian project “Baltic Unity Day” on 23 August. These occasions  will offer a platform for Lithuania’s business and public sector institutions to enhance cooperation with potential Japanese partners, participate in special events, and showcase their achievements in building a sustainable future society.

A Rich History of Global Exchange

Since the first World Expo in London in 1851, this format has provided countries with the opportunity to exchange ideas, showcase their achievements, and foster cultural and business relationships. The Baltic Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka continues this tradition, promising to highlight the Baltic region’s innovation, culture, and potential as an attractive destination for trade, investment, and tourism.
